Getting up really early on Friday 17th of September was easier than I thought (at least for me) maybe I was so excited by the new adventure awaiting me I ignored the fact that I only had about two hours sleep, because I just couldn’t fall asleep. Jasia packed a huge lunch for me! The journey by train was to take ten hours, more than flight to Kuala Lumpur from Melbourne. It didn’t worry me at all. I‘ve done it before. You just have to accept the fact of it.
I notice that I’ve covered the whole page and I haven’t really told you much. And I have to stop because Neska, Maciek’s and Miłka’s dog has come up to me for a cuddle. I am very lucky here – I can take part in taking Neska for a walk every day to a near by very Polish forest. We walk towards the lake. The view is breathtaking. And it will be even more beautiful in few weeks time when autumn will change the color of the leaves. I’ve already asked Maciek to take photos then and send them to us (but I’ve got ahead of the story Dani would have hated that).
Andrzej and Jasia took me to Dworzec Główny in Kraków and placed me safely in my seat (first class!).
Unfortunately number 45 seat was in opposite direction of the journey but my co-passenger across from me looked very promising and that more than enough made up for it. And I wasn’t mistaken, we spent a lovely few hours chatting. She was very eloquent and spoke beautiful Polish.

I wasn’t too bad but I noticed that I speak better when my companion speaks well. We had company of four young Spaniards for a while until ticket inspection told them they had to go back to second class. It was all done in a very civilised manner. The young people were traveling to Wrocław for friend’s wedding who was marrying a Pole. Their English was a little rough but they told us that young people in Spain hardly ever learn other languages. Strange. My companion left the train in Poznań and the compartment was slowly filling up with people. But it wasn’t until one hour before Szczecin that I talked to someone. The gentleman was coming home from a long trip from the Ukraine. He was very tired and was looking forward to going home and the next day (Saturday) going mushroom picking. There are lots of forests around Szczecin. I must admit I was a little nervous. Meeting yet another cousin after 50 years. But I think we did very well. Almost like picking up where we left off. I am having such a wonderful time here...
